AFCON 2021: As Super Eagles Play Group Final, Minister Hails Diplomat for Support

By Hillary Asemota

The Minister of Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare has commended the Nigerian High Commission in Cameroon for its support for the Super Eagles since the beginning of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament even as it is tipped to emerge winner of the group D final today (Wednesday) in Garoua, Cameroon.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Cameroon, Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin and officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Cameroon, apart from organizing a warm reception for the Super Eagles on their arrival in Garoua, have also been mobilizing the Nigerian community to attend the matches to support the team.

The Minister commended Olonisakin and other officials of the Commission for making Garoua ‘home away from home’ for the team.

Dare said: “the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Nigeria Football Federation and even the Super Eagles are really appreciative of what the Nigerian High Commission is doing.

“The team feels at home. Garoua has become home away from home for us all. The Nigerian Community are always mobilized to turn up in their green and white outfit, and in large numbers too, on match days to support the Super Eagles.

“Driving through Garoua, you will get the feeling that you are in a Nigerian town. One of every three persons on the street is putting on a Nigerian jersey, the Nigerian flag is everywhere and this is really heartwarming and inspiring.”

The Eagles will play their final group D game on Wednesday against Guinea Bissau in Garoua, already guaranteed to finish as group winners.
