By Faith Awa Maji, Katsina

Katsina State government is to establish community police with a standard structure to support the regular security personnel operating in the front line Local Government Areas facing security challenges.

Governor Dikko Umar Radda stated this Wednesday during a meeting with chairmen of the affected LGAs, traditional and religious leaders, the Divisional police officers as well as members of state security committee and other stakeholders, at government house.

According to the Governor, guidelines on the selection procedure and application forms are already in place for distribution to interested youths from the areas.

He said that the state would consider integrating members of the existing vigilance groups to join the community police.

According to Governor Radda a bill to provide for an enabling law on the community police had been sent to the House Assembly.

The Governor said the government would provide all the needed logistics support to ensure farmers cultivate their farms this cropping season.

The Secretary to the Government of the State, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa pleaded for more support from members of the general public in the fight against bandits through exposing the terrorists and others aiding their activities.
