Nasarawa: Stakeholders task to support policies against School related gender Based Violence

The need for absolute support against school related gender based violence by stakeholders across Nasarawa State has been stressed.

Programme Coordinator of Education as a Vaccine, Mr Usman Danladi stressed the need in Lafia during a consultation session on Development of the Safeguarding Policies for secondary schools students in the state.

According to Danladi, the assembly was geared towards identifying causes of school related gender based violence and how to stem the menace.

He noted that winning the fight against gender based violence in schools should be taken as a collective responsibility of both government at all levels and other stakeholders.

Some attendees, Mrs Fatima Danladi, Anzaku Usman and Gloria Ihegworo described the meeting as an eye opener to different aspects of school related gender based violence.

Some students, Ojile victory and Lawrence Moses appealed to government and other stakeholders in the education sector to adopt and implement the policy to enable them to have safer environment to learn and contribute their quota to societal development.

The meeting had representatives from the State Ministries of Education, Health, Women Affairs and Social Development; Civil society groups and secondary school students in attendance.
