The Katsina State Governor, Umaru Dikko Radda, has urged faithful of the two major religions in Nigeria, Islam and Christianity to use the occasion of the 2023 Muslim Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to foster more on harmonious living among them.
He said the solemn festival should reawaken our brotherhood spirit, irrespective of our religious and ideological creeds, “we must see each other as one”.
Governor Radda made this known today, Tuesday in his Eid-el-Kabir message.
According to him “it is fundamental that we all live peacefully and harmoniously as that will help to foster peace, love and true brotherhood among all Nigerians”.
The Governor’s message contained in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, “I congratulate Muslims in Nigeria for joining their counterparts across the world to celebrate the 2023 Eid-ul-Adha (the festival of sacrifice).
“The religious festival affords Muslims the opportunity to appreciate their Creator’s endless favour in their lives.
“I urge Muslims in Katsina and other parts of the country to steadfastly pray for national unity, peace and integration in this season and always.
“Muslims, like Prophet Ibrahim who dutifully obeyed Allah and offered to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail, should rededicate themselves to sincerely worshipping their Divine Lord and adhere to religious injunctions that will earn them God’s abundant favours, both in this world and in the hereafter.
“The Eid-el-Kabir festival should definitely go beyond the slaughtering of rams to sharing love and material possessions not only with relatives or acquaintances, but also with the displaced, the elderly, the orphans and other people at the margin of the society, including those with special needs.
“Nigeria is at a critical juncture of its evolution, occasioned by various challenges hindering the country’s progress, economically.
“While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governors and other political leaders assiduously work towards rebuilding the Nigerian state, the support, prayers and goodwill of the masses are needed to guide their leaders,” the statement noted.
