FMBlog Personality Today: In Faith Maji’s Blog Personality Today, we are featuring Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, MBBS (ABU), FWACS, PG.Cert.IVF (Germany)

Honourable Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu hails from Nasarawa State. He is a Clinician, an Academic and a Public Health Consultant.

A 1990 graduate of Medicine from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and former Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the College of Health Sciences, University of Jos, Nigeria.

He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons with sub-specialty training in Assisted Reproductive Techniques from Erlangen, Germany. He has over 30 published articles in local and international peer review journals including a manuscript on, “Labour Ward Protocols.”

He was member of the House of Representatives (2011-2015) where he served as Chairman of the House committee on HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB & Leprosy Control.

In and outside the Parliament, he remains an advocate for Women and Children’s Health. He continuously canvasses for global funding for HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis and other emerging diseases of Public Health importance, local and international.

He sponsored 10 Legislative Bills, one of which is now an act of The National Assembly: The HIV/AIDS

Anti-Stigma/Anti-Discrimination Act 2014| and co-sponsored the National Health Bill and National Health Insurance Bill in the 7th National Assembly.

He is the CEO and Team Leader of Doctors on the Move Africa; a Non-Governmental Organization

conducting Health Consultancy, Short Term Free Medical Missions in 24 states of Nigeria. Doctors on the Move Africa currently has over 450,000 general/gynae/Cataract surgeries and over two million outpatients’

consultations to its credit across “hard-to-reach local communities” of Nigeria in the past 17 years.

He is a community man par excellence with 15 traditional titles and the current Galadima Raya Kasa Lafia Bare Bari.

He was the Secretary of the Medical Directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council of BAT/SHETTIMA

Candidate of the APC and also the Co-Chairman of Governor AA Sule- Nasarawa State/BAT/SHETTIMA Presidential Campaign Council.

Kigbu is married to Professor Salome K. Kigbu, Professor of Law and Acting Dean, Postgraduate School, NILE UNIVERSITY ABUJA and they are blessed with children.
