Nasarawa: Governor Sule condemns gun attack on Ex-Minister

By Faith Awa Maji

Governor of Nassrawa State, Abdullahi Sule has condemned last Saturday’s invasion and gun attack on the residence of a former Minister of Information, Hon. Labaran Maku.

Unidentified gunmen reportedly stormed Maku’s residence at Ola, Akwanga Local Government Area where they were said to have shot and wounded three security personnel on duty there.

The Governor in a statement on Sunday by the SSA Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, described the incident as unfortunate and noting that government has since directed the police and other security agencies in the State to ensure that the criminals are brought to book.

According to the statement, “Governor Sule hereby reassures that as a responsible government, the security of lives and property as well as the general well-being of the citizens will continue to top priority by his administration.

“Government is already partnering with the top Military command, the police and para-military agencies to ensure that the bandits fleeing from other parts of the country as a result of military offensive do not have a hiding place in Nasrawa State.

“Governor Sule also warned criminal elements operating under whatever guise to leave or desist from their evil ways as the state has no hiding place for criminals.

“The Governor, on behalf of the Government and people of Nasarawa State, extends his deepest sympathy to the former Minister of Information over the unfortunate incident and to the injured security personnel, who were on duty at the time of the invasion.

The latest incident is said to be the third attack on the former Minister’s residence in a month.

Maku had earlier confirmed last weekend’s incident in a telephone conversation with Faith Awa Maji.

According to him, “I don’t want to make any further comments for now.”

According to sources, the hoodlums forced their way into Maku’s residence at about 7:30pm on Saturday and started shooting sporadically apparently to scare passers-by.

“They came in a large number and ordered the security to open the gate.

“When the security men resisted, the terrorists started shooting and jumped through the fence into the compound as they wounded three of the guards on duty,” the source said.
