Katsina Gov launches dry season agricultural initiative programme

In its effort to create wealth and boost food security, the Katsina State Governor, Malam Umar Dikko Radda has launched a dry season agricultural initiative programme at the Gwaigwaye irrigation site in Dikke ward, Funtua local government area of the State.
In his address, Governor Radda said the first phase of the Dry Season Agricultural Initiative Programme is aimed at empowering 2,040 farmers across all the 34 local governments, alongside the provisions of free dry season farming inputs.
He highlighted his administration’s commitment to agricultural development to include recognising farming as a crucial driver of economic growth.
Governor Radda emphasised the programme’s potential to reduce poverty, create jobs, and boost the state’s revenue.
Radda while Acknowledging the significance of proper farming techniques, announced the upcoming training sessions and the deployment of extension officers to guide farmers for optimal results.
He called on all local government chairmen to replicate the programme, stressing its non-partisan nature.
On his part, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Ahmed Mohammed Bakori, reiterate that 2,040 farmers will receive support with improved seeds, fertilizer, and pesticide chemicals. “And State government’s investments in irrigation infrastructure, including 204 tube wells and solar-powered water pumping machines at various sites.
ALGON State Chairman Engineer Bello Lawal Yandaki expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and pledged diligent monitoring by council chairmen to ensure the effective utilisation of inputs for improved food production and security.
Sixty farmers from each local government area will benefit in the first phase, just as plans are underway for the second phase launched next week.
