Barely four hours after giving birth at the post-natal ward of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) Lafia, Nasarawa State, unknown persons stole the day-old baby boy.

Mrs Wosilat Suleiman told reporters at the hospital that her child was stolen around 6:00 am on Tuesday, Jan. 9 after giving birth through CS earlier at about 3 am.

According to her, “my relation who was looking after me introduced a strange woman she met at the ward to me when she wanted to go home to pick items.

“She told me that the woman will take care of me and the baby before she returns from the house.

“My relation thought that the woman had a patient at the ward and she trusted her to help us before her return.

“The woman told me that she wanted to wash the baby but she disappeared with him.”

The hospital management described the incident as unfortunate.

The Acting Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Dr. Mohammed Salihu, said the matter had been reported to the police.

“Already, the relation of the mother of the baby has been arrested and some of our staff on duty were invited by the police for questioning,” he said.
