Police foil kidnap attempt, rescue victims in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt by terrorists on Baguma village in Kankara Local Government Area of the State.

The Police also rescued five kidnapped victims from the bandits. 

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, “on January 14th, 2024, at about 0145 hrs, armed bandits in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles, attacked Baguma village in Kankara LGA and kidnapped one Garba Musa, m, 50 years old, and one Bala Disco, m, 54 years old, all of the same address.

“Promptly, upon receipt of the report, the DPO Kankara divisional headquarters, CSP Hassan A. Musa, mobilized and led a team of operatives to the scene, where they gallantly engaged the suspected armed bandits in a fierce gun duel. The team successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt and rescued the victims unharmed.

“Consequently, on January 18th, 2024, at about 1230 hrs, one white Toyota Hiace motor vehicle, driven by Abdullahi Idris, m, 50 years old, of Dala LGA, Kano State, conveyed three (3) passengers, namely:

1. Jamilu Dahiru, m, 30 years old,

2. Machido Abubakar, m, 25 years old, and

3. Aisha Muhammad, f, 55 years old, all of Zamfara State, en route to Kano State.

“Upon reaching Unguwar Basau village along the Sheme-Kankara road, some suspected armed bandits in their numbers, armed with AK-47 rifles, attacked the moving vehicle and kidnapped all the occupants.

“Swiftly, a team of operatives led by the DPO Faskari divisional headquarters responded to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued all the occupants of the vehicle”, he added. 

The Commissioner of Police Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, while commending the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry, urged the good people of the State to continue to support the command, as well as other security agencies with timely information for swift and decisive action against all forms of crime and criminality in the State. 

He further re-emphasised the command’s commitment towards ensuring a safer Katsina State.
