S/Court Judgement: Court remands 38 protesters in Nasarawa

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has arrested 38 people protesting in Lafia the State capital for alleged public disturbance.
The suspects were immediately charged to court and remanded at the Lafia Custodian Centre.
They were charged before the Chief Magistrate Court 3 Lafia by the Nigeria Police.
When the matter was mentioned for hearing by the prosecuting counsel, Danjuma Allu, Mohammed Abdullahi-Lanze, Chief Magistrate reserved ruling on their bail application to Monday, Jan. 22, 2024.
Earlier, Illiya Ashokpa, Defendants Counsel pleaded that the court should grant bail to his clients, but his application was turned down.
The protesters consisted of five men and 33 women.
However, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, DSP Rahman Nansel confirmed to FMBlog in a telephone conversation that 38 people were arrested including 30 women and 8 men.
The Police spokesperson explained that the protesters were arrested for causing Public Disturbance after the judgement by the Supreme Court on the State’s governorship dispute and they were charged to court yesterday.
The Supreme Court on Friday, Jan. 19 affirmed the victory of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of All Progressives Congress (APC) and dismissed the Appeal by David Ombugadu, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2023 general elections.
