Mrs Miranda Ombugadu, wife of the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2023 general elections has donated 150, 000 wrappers to indigent women in the State.

Speaking at the event on Friday in Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA), Ombugadu said that the gesture was to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day.

The donation was done through her foundation, Miranda Asheazi-Ombugadu Foundation to support the indigent women in the State.

She said the gesture was to Illuminate the path towards inclusive and equitable societies, fostering the economic empowerment of women and girls.

“Considering the present state of the nation, I, therefore sympathize with women for what they are going through,” she said.

She noted that Nigeria’s economy would be stronger if attention is given to programmes towards the inclusion of women in governance.

Mrs Miranda Ombugadu promised to continue to support women and other vulnerable groups in the State to better their living conditions.

Also speaking at the event, the First Female FIFA referee in Nasarawa State, Miss Felicia Obile, called on governments at all levels to continue to initiate policies aimed at eliminating cultural and traditional barriers to allow more women to participate in sports.

Obile stated that the rate of women’s participation in sports had continued to remain low, especially in the northern parts of the country due to societal impediments and a lack of support.

She noted that most young girls across communities in Nigeria are endowed with various skills in sports but could not come out to identify themselves as a result of wrong perceptions and taboos.
