Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has explained government’s decision to sign a Letter of Cooperation with Power Africa.

Radda in his official X handle on Monday said that if the document is implemented it would boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue apart from more access to electricity power in the area.

According to him, “I am pleased to announce that I have officially signed a Letter of Cooperation with Power Africa to develop the Katsina State electricity market.

“Once implemented, it will have positive impact on the availability and accessibility of electricity in Katsina. Our collaboration aims to support the development of necessary policy and regulatory instruments to shape the electricity market in Katsina State.

“By signing this letter, the Katsina State Government and Power Africa are committed to achieving the following key objectives:

“Develop comprehensive policy and regulatory framework for the Katsina State electricity market.

“Establish an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) framework for Katsina State, covering capacity planning, generation, transmission, and distribution within the state.

“Conduct capacity building sessions to enhance the knowledge and skills of our staff, counterparts, and beneficiaries on matters pertaining to the Katsina State electricity market and Katsina State IRP.

“Together, we are dedicated to advancing the electricity sector in Katsina and ensuring a brighter future for the state.”

The post has generated mixed reactions from a cross section of his followers and others as some of them commended the Governor for what they described as his foresight while piloting the affairs of Katsina State while others used the platform to call on the Governor to provide additional information on the scope of operation of the contractual agreement.

Some of the commentators said:

“Governor, this is fantastic news for Katsina! Your dedication to improving electricity accessibility is inspiring. Just wanted to mention, our transformer at Masallacin GRA has been down for exactly four weeks now. It will mean a lot if you can look into it. Thanks for all you do!”

” Dear His Excellency. Your commitment for future Katsina is commendable, without any doubt your relentless effort will be a game changer for our dear state. I want use this medium to call on your government to double efforts in securing my town Kankara.”

” Sir, continue to tackle against insecurity, there is much challenge.”

“Please advise to make sure Rimi power plant is working in addition of your efforts.”

“Masha Allah, by the grace of God this dream of yours seems to have been completed and electricity will increase in our state by the grace of God.”

“Indeed, if done, you made a good job. That’s when looking into the mirror, see your ability, not your reflection. May Almighty God bless it to happen.”

However, another commentator writing in the Hausa language claimed that the Governor does not know the intensity of the insecurity situation especially in Kankara: “Waɗanda suka baka statistics na cewa wai an rage matsalar tsaro da kashi saba’in basu tsoron Allah! Narantse da girman Allah matsalar tsaron muke ciki yanzu tafi ta bara yawa. Akashe mutane a kona kadara akwashi dabbobi da mutane kullum haka muke a kankara. Muna cikin tsoro!.”
