Katsina Govt commences distribution of fertilizers to farmers at subsidized rates

Katsina State Governor, Umaru Dikko Radda, has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers at a subsidized rates to farmers for the 2024 farming season.
As part of activities marking his first anniversary as Governor, Radda on Monday at the Government House, described agriculture as the backbone of the state’s economy.
He also launched the distribution of motorcycles and knapsack sprayers to 772 agriculture extension agents from across the 34 Local Government Areas.
Radda said his administration was re-affirming its dedication to transform the agricultural landscape of communities noting that agriculture extension agents play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between government’s agricultural policies and the grassroots level.
“By equipping them with the necessary tools, such as motorcycles and knapsack sprayers, we empower them to reach the remotest areas, provide valuable expertise and support our farmers in adopting modern farming practices.
“The official flag off of the distribution and sales of fertilizers for the 2024 farming season underscores our unwavering commitment to ensuring food security and boosting agricultural productivity.
“By making fertilizers readily available and accessible at subsidized prices to our farming communities, we aim to catalyze agricultural growth, alleviate poverty and stimulate economic development across Katsina State.
“We recognise that agriculture is the backbone of our economy and by investing in the sector, we lay the foundation for sustainable progress and prosperity for generations to come.
“As we embark on this journey towards a more vibrant and resilient agricultural sector, let us remain steadfast in our determination to harness the full potential of our land and resources.
“Together, we can build a future where every farmer thrives, every community flourishes and our state emerges as beacon of agricultural excellence”, according to Radda.
On his part, the Katsina State Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Prof. Ahmed Bakori Mohammed, noted that government had undertaken key initiatives in the promotion of dry season farming, which has expanded the State agricultural output and resilience to climate variability.
According to Bakori, “through the provision of solar water pumps, quality seeds, fertilizer and capacity-building training to farmers free of charge, this has empowered our farmers to cultivate crops all year round, ensuring food security and increasing their incomes.
“In addition to this, government has signed an MoU to revive cotton value chain.
“In the long run, we hope to open Katsina State Special Agro Industrial Processing Zone as some companies have indicated interest in establishing soya beans processing plant, poultry feed, cotton ginnery.
“This will greatly help our farmers and boost the revenue base of the state”.
