The organisers of the socio-cultural popular annual Eggon carnival, Ame Wo Ba Eggon has elected its new leaders to pilot the affairs for two years.
The Eggon Carnival in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, is a vibrant cultural festival celebrated by the Eggon people and other tribes within and outside the country as it aims to promote Eggon culture, unity, and heritage, showcasing their rich traditions, music, dance, and art.
The carnival fosters community bonding, cultural preservation, and tourism, contributing to Nasarawa State, North and Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
AWBE election which earlier held on both online for those from far and outside Nigeria commenced at 12 am of saturday 19th October to 12noon of same day and physical voting commenced at 10am of same day and subsequently ended at 2 pm of the 19th October, 2024.
Declaring the new executive members of the group at 11:49 pm late Saturday, chairman of the 2024 AWBE electoral committee, Emmanuel Asso expressed satisfaction with the members for conducting themselves before, during and after the exercise just as thanked them for availing him and other members of the electoral body to serve.
He therefore announced that Jonathan Samuel Akpaho who scored a total vote cast of 672 has been declared winner against his rival, Aaron Otsa who got 549.
FMBlog learnt that the position of Vice President went to Bridget Abraham Azizi, Secretary, Blessing Anna Andrew, Asst. Secretary, Dan Agyo Kyama.
Others are Janet Jonathan, treasurer, Ovye James Anvah as Financial Secretary. DOS I went to David and DOS II went to Diana Adagadzu.
Esson Gale John was elected as Public Relations Officer 1, Atakpo Haladu Danlami, PRO 11. The position of Welfare I and 11 went to Agatha Ashedzi Masin, Jessica Emmanuel Asheson, and the Provost Marshal position went to Joseph Tanko respectively.
Reacting to his victory, the AWBE President elect, Comrade Jonathan Samuel Akpaho said “Today, together we have, as a people, moved towards making AWBE better than it was yesterday.
“In every contest, some people must emerge to carry the torch that will light the pathway.
“Following the announcement made by the electoral committee, I hereby accept the responsibility as the President – elect to carry this torch that will bring AWBE progress and development by the Grace of God in a few short days.
“I am particularly grateful to the entire members of AWBE for the confidence reposed in me and their resolve to move AWBE forward. I do not take this responsibility for granted, and I will, together with the newly elected team members, ensure inclusiveness, excellent delivery of task, harmonious coexistence, and the development of our members and the entire Eggon nation
“To other contestants, there is no Victor nor Vanquish. We’re brothers and sisters working towards Eggon progress and development. I urge you not to feel defeated because you are not. You are instrumental in building a formidable association.
“The electoral body (ELCOM) did an incredible job in ensuring a smooth, fair, and transparent process, and I am grateful to all the members of the committee for the job well done. To the ECDA team led by the president who was onsite to witness today’s exercise, I want to sincerely appreciate your support and encouragement. To all Eggon sons and daughters in Nigeria and Diaspora, it’s a new dawn in AWBE, and by the Grace of God, we will not let you down. Congratulations to the newly elected team of executives under my leadership, I look forward to collaborating with you in sailing this ship safely”, the AWBE President elect.
