Katsina State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) on Saturday joined the global community in celebrating the 2025 edition of International Women’s Day with the theme, ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.’

The group in a statement advocated stronger government policies supporting girl-child education and gender equality in decision making processes at all levels of governance.

The NAWOJ Chairperson, Hannatu Mohammed and the Secretary, Faith Awa Maji signed the statement.

According to the statement, “As women journalists, we recognise the vital role our gender plays in shaping communities and societies hence we commend our struggles, achievements, and contributions worldwide, especially today, that was set aside to commemorate our laudable impact globally.

“Katsina State, NAWOJ remains committed to promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and social justice which prompted us to over the past one year of the administration of the State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, viewed with thanks the invaluable contributions of women toward the socio-economic development of our dear state.

“The Radda administration’s deliberate inclusion of women in governance through strategic appointments to key positions is, indeed, a testament that women represent the backbone of our society and economy.

“No doubt our resilience, dedication, and ingenuity continue to drive progress across all sectors.

“The Governor’s administration resonates with our goal which was to ensure that every woman in Katsina state has the opportunity to achieve financial independence.

“However, we want to use this unique day to further urge the administration to design stronger policies and programmes that support girl-child education, and more women participation in decision-making processes and promote gender equality as well as continue to address violence against women.

“Katsina NAWOJ also appeals to other organisations to provide equal opportunities for women to attend higher positions.

“As women journalists, we pledge to amplify our voices through our reports, to promote a culture of inclusivity at all levels.

“We celebrate women’s doggedness in breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes and we should remember that one love keeps us together, especially in decision-making processes,” the statement.
