The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel says the command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against violent crime, with the arrest of six suspects linked to armed robbery and kidnapping in Doma Local Government Area of the State.

The command also succeeded in arresting a suspected armed herder in Keana as contained in a statement by the PPRO, SP Nansel and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

According to the statement, “Acting on credible intelligence from a patriotic citizen, operatives of Doma Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, raided a notorious criminal hideout at Yelwa Ediya. The operation resulted in the arrest of the following suspects: Darda’u Shehu (M), Yunusa Malami Hashimu (M), Musa Abubakar (M), Ibrahim Musa (M), Mohammed Musa (M), all of Yelwa Ediya Village, Doma LGA.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the 26th May 2025 kidnapping of a serving councillor (name withheld), during which they stole two mobile phones, an Infinix Note 30 valued at ₦250,000 and a Tecno handset valued at ₦20,000.

“They further admitted to mounting a roadblock along the Doma–Yelwa road on 19th July 2025 at about 9:00 a.m., where they attacked Ibrahim Haruna (M) of Yelwa Ediya and snatched his Bajaj motorcycle valued at ₦970,000. The stolen motorcycle was sold through one of the suspects, Ibrahim Musa, who contacted a buyer.

“During the operation, officers recovered ₦100,000 proceeds from the sale of the motorcycle which had been buried in the bush, along with one Bajaj motorcycle.

“In a related development, at about 12:30 a.m. on 10th August 2025, operatives of Keana Division responded to a distress call about herders grazing on farmlands at Gidan Zaki Hassan, Kuduku, Keana LGA. When confronted by locals, the herders opened fire before fleeing. The police, working with community members, arrested 20-year-old Suleman Mohammadu (M), a herder, and recovered one AK-47 magazine loaded with six live rounds of ammunition.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that all arrested suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.

“CP Mohammed reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to making Nasarawa State safe for all, warning that there will be no hiding place for criminals. He urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue to provide timely and credible information to assist police operations”, according to the statement.
