Katsina Gov’s wife leads 2025 World Breast Cancer Day awareness walk

The Wife of the Katsina State Governor, Fatima Dikko Radda, last Friday led hundreds of enthusiastic participants in an early morning Breast Cancer Awareness Walk across Katsina city to mark the 2025 World Breast Cancer Day.
The event jointly organised by the Katsina State Ministry of Women Affairs, Pledging Aid Charity Foundation, Medicaid Cancer Foundation, and REVIVEzw Belgium, commenced at 7:00 a.m. from the Old Government House and ended at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
This year’s theme, “Every Story is Unique, Every Story Matters,” highlighted the importance of early detection, regular screening, and open dialogue about breast health among women and families.
The walk drew a large turnout of men, women, and youth, all united in solidarity against cancer. Popular Kannywood actors and actresses also joined the campaign, using their influence to spread awareness and encourage timely medical action.
Participants marched through major streets carrying banners, chanting motivational messages, and taking part in live health demonstrations. creating a vibrant and emotional atmosphere that symbolised unity and shared commitment in the fight against breast cancer.
Addressing the gathering at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Radda expressed deep appreciation to the people of Katsina for their overwhelming support and dedication to women’s health.
“I am profoundly grateful to the people of Katsina for coming out in such large numbers to support this campaign. Your presence is a powerful reminder that when we unite for a cause, we can save lives,” she said.
She expressed her happiness that the Katsina State Government is currently constructing a multi-million naira Imaging Centre in Katsina town. She noted that once completed and fully operational, the centre will go a long way in solving the problem of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in the state.
“When this Imaging Centre is completed, it will make a significant difference in the fight against breast cancer, providing easier access to screening and early detection for our women,” she added.
She further highlighted the ongoing collaboration with REVIVEzw Belgium, noting that through this partnership, over 50 beneficiaries will soon receive free cancer screening and treatment.
A key highlight of the event was the free breast and cervical cancer screening conducted by senior medical professionals. Participants also benefited from health education sessions on early detection, preventive care, and practical self-examination demonstrations.
The event further featured inspiring survivor testimonials and the launch of the Cancer Buddies Network, a support initiative connecting patients and caregivers to share encouragement and healing experiences.
Medical experts and partner organizations from across Nigeria took part, offering counseling, distributing educational materials, and promoting regular medical checkups and healthy living.
Hajiya Fatima Radda also shared that she has been actively participating in the Medicaid Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Abuja for the past ten years. This year, for the first time, she successfully brought the initiative to Katsina. an effort that ended in great success and community participation.
“For the past ten years, I have been part of the Medicaid Breast Cancer Walk in Abuja. Alhamdulillah, this year I was able to bring it home to Katsina, and it turned out to be a great success,” she said with gratitude.
In a post-event message, Fatima Dikko Radda expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who joined the walk:
“Alhamdulillah, my heart is full of gratitude today. I sincerely thank every one of you who came out to walk with us. Your energy, your voices, and your presence made a difference.
Every step we took today was a step toward hope, healing, and early detection. Together, we are showing that when communities unite for a cause, real change happens. Let’s keep this spirit alive. Together, we can build a healthier and more informed Katsina.”
World Breast Cancer Day, observed globally every October 15 as designated by the United Nations, was celebrated in Katsina on Friday, October 31, 2025, reaffirming the state’s renewed determination to strengthen preventive healthcare and promote early detection among women.
This year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk underscored the Katsina State Government’s continued commitment, under the leadership of Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, to improving inclusive healthcare delivery and ensuring that no woman in Katsina faces the challenge of cancer alone.
Those in attendance included the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Malumfashi; Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Fadila Muhammad Dikko; Hon. Mustapha Sani Bello, Member representing Mashi LGA at the State House of Assembly; Executive Secretaries of the State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHCA), Drug Management and Supply Agency (DMSA), and Katsina State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KATSACA); as well as wives of local government chairmen, commissioners, and members of the House of Assembly.
